2021년 초 SOPHIE의 갑작스런 죽음 이후, 1년 뒤인 2022년 4월 신주쿠에서 VJ Kawata와 오거나이저이자 Drag Queen인 Gyoza 두명이 합심하여 만든 Sophie Night은 지금까지 다양한 퀴어 아티스트들과 디제이들이 SOPHIE의 음악적인 레거시를 기리면서, 다양한 퀴어 언더그라운드뮤직 애호가들을 한자리에 모이게 한 역할을 하고 있다.

나 또한 도쿄에 이사를 가고 신주쿠 니쵸메에 가기 시작할 무렵, SOPHIE Night을 처음 만나게 되었다. 다양한 LGBT 아티스트들이 SOPHIE를 기리며 준비한 열정적인 퍼포먼스에 정신없이 매료되었던 기억이 아직도 생생하다.

그래서 이번 2월 VISLA FM의 믹스로, SOPHIE의 3주기를 맞은 2024년 1월 27일에 있었던 SOPHIE Night이 주최한 lil Basement Rave의 뜨거웠던 열기를 VISLA FM에 그대로 전달하고자 한다. 첫 2시간은 Gyoza가 Guest Selector로써 고른 곡들을 위주로 intoxxy가 디제이를 하고, 마지막 40여분은 MELEETIME과의 b2b로 마무리한다.

After the tragic passing of SOPHIE in early 2021, a year later in 2022 April, VJ Kawata and Organizer/Drag Queen Gyoza decides to honor SOPHIE’s musical legacy by making SOPHIE Night, an event where all the queer artists and DJs play SOPHIE and queer underground music lovers enjoy music curated by people who were influenced by SOPHIE.

I myself also visited SOPHIE Night in 2022 when I just moved to Tokyo and started hanging out in Shinjuku Nichome more, and was mesmerized by the power and energy from all the wonderful LGBT artists honoring SOPHIE with their performances.

So for my VISLA FM’s Febuary DJ Mix, myself, Gyoza and MELEETIME are bringing you the live recorded set and the wild energy from “lil Basement Rave” presented by SOPHIE Night, held in January 27th 2024, almost exactly 3 years after SOPHIE’s passing. For the first 2 hours, intoxxy is going to mix songs that Gyoza chose as Guest Selector for the event, and the last 40 minutes will be a b2b set with MELEETIME.
